Thoughts On Worms UM dissapointed? I am

So I finally bought the game, and 20 minutes later, here I am.

Has nobody played the original Worms 3D or 4? There was no Picture In Picture, the camera actually followed the thrown weapon & looked & was 1000x better than it is now.

Now all we get to see is a tiny screen up in the corner of who knows what, I have a 40" LCD and all I can say is wtf was that. even if I could tell, wth lol?

A weapon thrown or fired from a distance is followed up by the main screen being centered on the attacker, who now is idle and so interesting to look at, come on really? we get a small screen in the corner of well, some 10" action, I am sorely dissapointed, wow, I mean wow..

A close range shot is also followed up by the picture in picture cam, seriously? is that even necessary. no, its not, it locks the camera in place, stopping one from rotating to get a better veiw, or simply another angle.

I would in an instant delete it for even half my money back, wouldnt be so bad if there was an option to disable this new & useless feature, so long as with it being off, it would then play the way it used to on the old PS2.

The picture-in-picture thing was implemented so you could retreat your worm and still see if you hit the target or not, actually a huge improvement.

You think you couldn't retreat in the old worms? you could, you may like not being able to follow the weapon as its thrown or fired, but I dont, I dont care if I hit or miss so long as I can see it up close & personal like, all they needed was an option to disable this PIP for the original lovers of these games & that is why I still have my PS2 & Worms 3D & will keep them forever.

What everyone (Team17) needs to understand is that I have been waiting years to be able to play worms 3D online, and now that I can at least play part 4 maps with others globally, I really dont want to, this new PIP has killed the game for me,

Its all about watching the "Magic" happen, watching up close as a worm gets shot 1000 miles an hour straight up, Look Ma its a Shooting Star, harhar. worms games are more than just soundbanks and crazy hats, its about epic shots, and being able to enjoy them weither you hit your opponent or not.

Even if Team17 switched the PIP around to have the action in the main screen, it would not be enough, tho a good start at least, you'd still need to be able to follow the weapon as its thrown, and be able to pan the weapon cam with the right stick.

I don't get it. If you retreat after fireing in Worms 4 you wouldn't be able to see anything of your shot. With PIP you can see both. The small screen becomes the large one after your retreat time has ended.

If you want to to have the small screen disabled then disable retreat time, simple as that (you appear not to retreat anyway since you always want to see the results of your shot).

what dont you get? obviously I was more of a worms 3D fan, I didnt keep worms 4 for long, maybe that was partly the reason why.

I do like to be able to retreat & did retreat all the time in worms 3D, but anyways, I tried what you suggested in the hopes that it would make things better, I would gladly sacrifce the ability to retreat if it ment I could watch the "magic"

The Result, eh, its a little better, tho still no weapon cam, which I find in a 3D envoirnment helps one to learn, distance ect.

Thanks tho thurbo, but face it, you like the game the way it is, I dont and never will, no amount of talkings going to change that.

I'll just stick to playing worms 3D with my mates on ps2, tho if its on pc with netplay or if someones added netplay I'll just get that game, and delete worms UM.

It's been awhile let me just load it up, would ya look at that, it doesnt show the shot if ya retreat, guess me & my mates never retreated untill after the "show"the games ment to be fun who cares if it makes games longer by however many minutes. everbody loves eye candy, right? heh I would say make the weapons cam mandatory with a click to skip for those who only play games for trophys, I could never be one of those people, I say again games are ment to be fun, & visually stimulating.

Everybody deserves to see their shot in all its glory, just as everyone deserves the right to retreat. can we not have both? is it really that unreasonable? somehow I dont think it is.

There are things in the game that will have you shouting at the screen, the Icarus potion challenge for example.
On the first few attempts it seems impossible to do this in less than 3 minutes. I came very close to jumping in the Cortina and setting off to tell Team17 all about it.
2 attempts later i did it in 2 minutes 27 seconds.
Point being, whatever you do find annoying is very soon forgiven.
Read nothing into these complaints if your still considering buying the game. Its chuffin brilliant!!!

yes Pielord I bought it, and a few short games later im over it, shouting at the screen huh? does it make you feel better? lol I am angry enough to break the disc if I actually had it on one lol, but thats due to the lack of a weapons cam which is what I found in worms 3D to be a main feature.

I wasnt going to reply anymore but lol, are you serious? its about them changing the wrong thing, most changes are generally for the better, but not always. if you disagree & think every change 4 every game is good then your the best person to make games for.

wait you said worms 4/Ultimate mayhem, I missed that on my quick read, so now my responce is, if thats true then that would of been a contributing factor in me getting rid of part 4 aswell, & although it was a long time ago, it was more like worms 3D than UM so lol, I actually finished part 4 & played it with friends, I think my main reason for getting rid of it was simply due to 3D having better maps.. 4's cam was fine to the best of my recollection... it gets points that I actually finished the game..twice...

since im here, aiming assist? its called practice.. trial & error & no fair if it can be used online, the original worms 3D game I played this morning (ps2) my shots were all over the place, but I was slowly getting the hang of it again.. I was on the map Alien Juice Suckers, man thats a huge stage lol.

I have all golds 4 all the challenges, not sure about all the campaign stages tho.

(edit) I must add since all this game is is a revamped Worm3D & 4 they really shouldnt of changed much, all most companies do when reviving things from the past is add netplay & sometimes better graphics.. & tbh thats all thats needed, its an old game with people like myself who loved it the way it was, I just woke up & had a jam on the ps2, its still rockin it, not only is UM missing the weapons cam, but the cam that follows after of worms flying/falling to their deaths.

In my honest & unbiased opinion as a S3R10USG4M3R for around 10 years (25 all up tho I wasnt serious as a kid lol) Worms UM is Like an action movie, only without the action.

okay okay, after playing it a bit more, I've changed my mind, its not as bad as all that, its far from perfect mind you, but yeah.. its better than I've given it credit for so..

mmm... they still have a long way to go.. we all as gamers know how important the camera is, it really doesnt matter about anything else if the camera sucks.. but yeah, team 17, keep workin on it, im sure one day it'll be just right.

3D worms ftw lol, at least kinda... ugh wat was I dunna say... hmmm.. o yeah my custom weapon with max land damage & 3x 2x damage doesnt = very big holes like it should, even with a blast force of zero possibly 1, they should drown

thats my tip 4 the day, max land damage/worm damage zero blast force those worms should drown, most the time..

I agree with all of the frustration about the PIP camera. It really blows. I'm still playing this game to a degree, but end up frustrated almost every time.

My favorite thing to do is create a custom game style, and then use it when playing friends locally or via online multiplayer. But I haven't yet figured how to unlock all the weapons & items for a custom game style, so I can use them in a multiplayer game.

To that end, what do you have to do to unlock the holy hand grenade and whatever else that doesn't come standard? I played the single player missions until I had enough credits to purchase the sniper rifle, but now there's no more weapons available to buy in the shop. Do you just have to keep playing the single player mode until you unlock more and more things?

I really dont know, I think you got it tho, keep doing all the missions, possibly challenges, the answers should be out there already tho, try www.gamefaqs.com they generally have most if not all the answers and walkthroughs for things, love that site, I was a fan of IGN back when they were known as gamesages.com I havent tried it inawhile but im sure if you type that linto your browser it takes ya to IGN but yeah, im not into them anymore..

I want all those extra weapons too, love custom games.. add me if ya have ps3 shadow_magick I cant wait to try concrete donkey.. I dont think I've seen that in a 3d worms.. cant really remember, but geez I hope they add armageddon to it aswell.. heh that would be sweet.

Finish all single player stuff there is in order to unlock everything. That includes main campaign, challenges, Worms 3D missions and the like.

Don't forget you need to beat the times for every campaign mission and challenge as well.

really geez, hope theres a cheat code else way to make the game fully accessible to all types of gamers... *rolls eyes* I doubt there will be & if not team17 & blizzard must be in cahoots..

I've beaten the times 4 all the challenges well up to death match 5 or 6, I cant be arsed beating the times for every worms 3d & 4 maps, sounds too much like work, hello im a gamer I dont even care to much about obtaining trophys, I almost never go out of my way to get them..

I will not jump through your little hoops team17 in order to unlock all weapons, I will however stop wasting my time with you in future, unless you fix this in a patch by adding cheat codes or by releasing dlc that also unlocks everything.. at least on pc skilled programmers can unlock it themselves..

after diablo 3 blizzard will be dead to me.. some companies are more about themselves than the customers... im only buying it cuz I've waited ten years.. tho really.. that in itself is enough to make me go, no I wont buy it, its online only, they wont let you play or save offline.. bah & all the official screenshots look worse than the d2 graphics.. geez..

iin most games I love earning things to unlock, it seems tho, not in all games, and not with such strict terms, how many worms 3d maps are there? 30? 40? 50?? I AM a gamer, but im not some hardcore every game has to be mastered kinda gamer, I've played thousands of games in 25 years, owned most consoles, and played everyday for at least the last 10 years, spent around 20,000$ over the years at united video, civic, and video easy, lets just say 30 to 40k all up, mind you, I rented some actual videos too.. I have a custom pc being built its a few days away I've already bought a few games for it, and have a big list in mind as to other things I want, so far I bought C&C3/Kanes Wrath/Tiberium Twilight C&C the first Decade, im paying off diabo 3 ultimate which includes a soul stone usb and d2 + lord of destruction, I want to get starcraft 1 & 2, worms 2, maybe worms armageddon tho I have it on ps3, but I may get it if I can modify blast radius's ect like in worms 2.. I still own ps2 xbox, I still buy ps2 games, hell even ps1 games from the ps store.. I could go on, Im out of breath, lol I just rented jericho and deus ex human revolution, dont want to keep them waiting.

I quite liked megalomania for ps2... or was it sega megadrive (genesis) hmm genesis..

Cant forget fallout tactics, its my fav fallout so far.

I say make it a DLC that unlock all weapons, art and those loyalty extras (i aint buying any of your other games so lol w/e) as well as all maps and even the ability to play the 3D stages online, I'd pay for that.. just like magic the gathering has the ability to pay to unlock all the cards in a deck, its really no differnt than that, tho I did unlock them all personally, I actually wanted to, well kinda lol I wanted to save money tbh ;P theres still a deck or 2 I havent bothered with and yes they are 2 I paid to actually download.. just not to unlock the cards... its a great idea on their part as it can take ages and it gets boring quick. as I said I took my time and unlocked all the previous decks myself, it hella felt like work.. work unless its a good job or game sux lol, games should never feel like work, even if its in a game that part of it requires that you actually goto work i.e the sims lol

turning into a bit of a blog lol, just wanted to share a story, I used to be in good with the previous owners of united video, they saw me every week, so I ended up with unique deals just for me, it was something like any 6 weekly games for like 20 bux, trust me, theres so many crap games in the world that trying before buying is always good, + the fact that forget being stuck with a game or 2 you end up hating from the start. which was generally the case, so yeah, renting 6 games a week was all good.. there would be at least 1 or 2 decent ones among them.. and some that were just like wow, I must own this.. there wasnt many of those, but a few.. heh k now off to play the games I rented today, im not in any real rush tho, i aint a big fps fan.. I used to be.. duke3d was mad, I remember having an online rpg battle with some duke expert, of course I died but for that minute, it was like being in the matrix NEO.. speaking of the matrix, I hope I get a chance to play the mmo on somebodys dedicated server.. hope it still has a strong following.. and.. yeah.. enter the matrix ps2, the fight againt trinity, I completely buzzed out while fighting as I saw code stream down the screen for a moment.. then in path of neo.. geez.. that samurai sword = badass.. me and my random button pressing/combinations lol.. aw I gotta buy those games again.. "Serious gamers" get the opportunity to beat the whole game and get awarded with something if they make it, a concept many games make use of. For example Worms Armageddon requires you either to earn gold in all missions or rank yourself up to Elite in deathmatch mode in order to unlock all weapons (can't remember what condition it was, I think missions unlocked "cheats", but both is pretty darn hard to achieve anyway).

I got 2 many other things to play & do... seriously.. with new things coming out all the time.. I spent around 100 hours recently in dragon age origins.. for the second time.. but its not worms UM meaning I actually could be bothered even tho I wasnt working for anything except finishing it again..

I guess a huge part of the problem is I already beat most of the times on ps2.. worms3D, that took long enough, and it was for nothing other than actually doing it, but I never did beat all the mission times and really couldnt be bothered..

time is precious... time is money.. time stops for no one..

some games just aint worth it.. guess for me this is one of them.. all I wanna do is create a custom weapon scheme and start playing multi.. but o well.. next time I'll make sure I buy it for pc... that way, were all winners.

I commend you and others if they actually take the time to beat all the times and everything, but to me that almost screams I play 1 game at a time untill its finished or like I love this game so much, it is worth it..

most people are rewarded with trophys. platinium being the hardest to obtain.. tbh I dont have any platinums nor do I really care for them.. .I know a few who do who use youtube all the time just to be told exactly what to do and when to do it.. I think what a waste of time.. anyways..

The "cow level" is a running gag throughout the Blizzard games since Diablo. Players started spreading rumours about a secret cow level in the game although there really wasn't one. It's often been quoted, for example "there is no cow level" is a cheat code in StarCraft. Ironically, Blizzard actually included a secret cow level in Diablo II.

Hah, I'll be honest there I only played the StarCraft and Warcraft series (except WoW). I first got interested in the drop-down view RPG games when I got Titan Quest and Torchlight and I was really thinking about getting Diablo III up until Blizzard decided we'll require a constant Internet connection. I'll have to pass on this one in this case, it's sad enough StarCraft now disallows me to play offline randomly as a consequence of their new "Starter Edition". I'm not sure if I had bought SCII if I had known this beforehand.

ever played diablo 2? get that man, its wicked, heh I do like to cheat now and then, have some hacked chars n stuff, surprisingly enough they can still die lol.. guess Its cuz I only mainly add a few custom charms to my inventory.. im talkin years ago anyways..\

but yeah d2's still rockin it, I'll be there fer shure.. at some point lol..

never heard of torchlight and the other but I'll check it out..

you got a problem not being able to stay connected to the net? just jack it into the wall man.. if ya can.. im sure you can still play single player & stuff, but yeah has to be done online tho..

eventually some super smart computer genuises will figure out how to mod it.. hack it.. w/e.. so yeah, expect to be able to play offline one day... with the possibility of playing multi on a non blizzard server.. I love that there are people out there who can make pretty much anything happen.. heh blizzard said d2 was unhackable, thats just like challenging people to try, and succeed.. dont think they said anything this time tho lol. ;P
