Welp, that's a depressing read.

TL;DR version: Lucasarts contracted Free Radical to make Starwars Battlefront 3 and 4, then canned both games when the first was almost ready to hit the shelves, effectively killing an awesome British developer.

Additionally Crytek Uk (the remenants of Free Radical) have anounced that they're not working on Timesplitters 4 afterall.

I give you a mild interest for the setting, but I love how they tagged it as 2025. Cause it's totally plausible that we'll have autonomous walking mechs running around in 10 years' time, and enough reliance on them that we can rally a coup against their regime.

Yeah most people I know shrugged it off from the start, you can tell how people feel about Blops if you can't even get them hooked on a mock trailer.

So, Sony's new mascot fighting game.

Sure, we could talk about how it's basically Smash Bros. with (what are very nearly) health bars, how Sony has squat-all notable mascots, or how bloody awful the visual style is, but I have a better question:

Did Dan Quayle decide on this title, or did they genuinely not know how to spell "battle royal"? Because I sure as hell don't think it's referencing the book!

Royale is the french adjective for Royal. I was curious about this my self since there's also the Indie Royale bundle.

Sections of the game are set in the 1980s, spesifically in central america. That's where the horses are.

Also BLOPS had the best multiplayer in the series, and it looks like they'll be incorporating all the good ideas from MW3 this time around.

It's a common spelling and by far the least dumb thing about the game. (the inclusion of a Fat Princess who loves cake is the dumbest thing about the game)

The mech there could easily be Boston Dynamics "Bigdog" project given another ten years. I mean, look where it is now. It's got the walking part down, autonomus is where its headed, all it needs is to be made bigger, given guns, covered in armor and boom, blops2 robot.

If it's taken 10 years to get a robot (prototype! with external power!) to walk, we might have commercial walking robots in 10 years, but a big-huge-stompy gun robot thing is unlikely.

The little I know of these games makes me suspect realism isn't top of the agenda.

Well, it actually has its own power source at this point, and is slated for military trials in June. I don't think we'd see commercial first, since as with most new technology, the military wants it first. If those trials are successful, it would be battlefield ready in a year and a half.
