Can't install worms2? Win7

So I just found this game sitting around, and since it used to be just about my favourite game a year or 10 ago I decided to give it a go. Turns out that I'm experiencing a problem nobody else is having (for as far as I know). Couldn't find it anywhere on google, or these forums for that matter.

When I start up the CD and hit "install game", I get the screen saying "Clicking the <install game> button will launch the game installation program which will take you through the process of settings the game. If you need assistance, remember to press the ? for offline help.[...]"

When I hit the install game button on this screen however, and after clicking away the "would you like assistance during the installation and loading of the game", my mouse shows something is loading for about 20 seconds. And then...nothing! The installation just goes back to the welcome screen and completely ignores my request to install the game.

The only thing I've tried so far is starting the setup from the cd manually in compatibility mode. Didn't work. Is there any fix for this problem, or is it probably my CD being scratched? I'm running windows 7 Professional 32 bit.

First of all, what's the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive that you're installing the game from? Do you have several (physical or virtual) drives? If you do, try installing from the one with the lowest letter (e.g. D:\ is lower than E:\).

I can't actually find any of my W2 discs right now to check, but try looking for other installers on there. In the case of Worms Armageddon, there's a Setup.exe as well as an Install.exe in a separate folder and people have had problems with one but not the other before.

Also I'm pretty sure compatibility modes won't do you much good here so definitely try with them disabled as well.

Sounds like you're using the Sold Out edition of the game. I actually had a very similar issue trying to install the Sold Out version of Worms Armageddon on my work laptop, which uses Win7 Premium 32-bit. The Sold Out launcher ran fine, but actually attempting to install the game proper didn't work. Later, when I closed some background programs I didn't need, multiple copies of the installer loaded all at once. Which was weird.

My suggestion would be to try closing any programs you may have running in the background that you aren't using (or if you are using them you can restart them after installation completes).

Thanks for the comments guys!

Yesterday, when I was about to go to bed, about 5 hours (!!!) after my last attempt to install, the installer suddenly decided to pop up! Installed the game without any problems now. Tested it out and it works just fine

It must have been something similiar to what Squirminiator2k commented. Multiple installers popped up for me at first as well, and I did close a lotta programs before the install screen finally appeared.

Oh my god, after trying every different compatibility mode with and without admin rights and with or without movie box ticked I decided to close as many programs as possible (which meant going into task manager and closing quite a few programs running in the background, even the ones that control my touchpad and sound card etc.) and what do you know, it worked!

I think more people might have to try this, thanks guys!
