www.galagiveaways.com

A new platform for giving away unused Steam keys for games.
Has an automatic auctioning/bidding system and randomly determines a winner.
Uses a virtual currency, based on your Steam account value (login via Steam API required).
(1$ = 100GW points)

Still requires trust in the other parties to actually send you a (valid) key, but a thorough reputation system is in place too.
The main advantage is, that there is no real money involved and people are basically giving away the masses of duplicate keys from all the indie game bundles.
(No idea whether giving keys away violates the TOS of those indie game bundles.)

From my experience, it's just another site like www.steamgifts.com, where you have the same random odds of winning anything as getting a hat drop in TF2 (read: none).

True.
I was thinking about www.steamtrades.com, where people are selling virtual crap for ridiculously high monies.

It's 1% chance each drop. As for myself, I recieved 6 hats/miscs in approximately 600 in-game hours. A clear 1 hat per 100 hours rate :C

Funnily enough, I did actually win something from SteamGifts once.

But it was The Polynomial, which is an absolutely rubbish game.

.....buuut getting the achievement in it won me Avadon: The Black Fortress in the (ridiculously hard to get anything good in) Steam Winter Giveaway in 2011. So - by ridiculous luck - it all worked out in the end.

Apparently, I have ~$2.75k worth of games on Steam.

Considering that I like to hoard money Scrooge McDuck style, that's quite an accomplishment!

If they can sort out the shading, I'll be happy. Right now the lighting is simply treating the models as 3D models, which really doesn't work well with the visual style. If they can punch up the cel-shaded look from the original, maybe make it look a little more like Okami, it'd be a day one purchase for me.

The screens shown so far are proof of concept stuff, intended as an exploration of possible art styles for the new WiiU Zelda. I imagine the actual product will look much better.

The WiiU controller seems like a shoe-in for the Tingle tuner. My main interest is whether they add in the dungeons cut from the original, and maybe do something about the Triforce quest.

I'm hoping they'll add an extra difficulty setting (Possibly mirroring the world like they've done for TP & OoT 3DS), boss rush mode, make the triforce quest less tedious, make the Command Melody faster to use (Don't have the game repeat the song perfectly whenever it is played?) and tone down the bloody bloom.

And yeah Tingle Tuner is virtually guaranteed to take advantage of the Gamepad.

While I don't think the lighting is quite there yet, but it looks nicer than the original. I didn't really at first, but then I looked at screenshots from the original and changed my mind. Sure there's no texture detail that needs higher resolution, but the crisp shadows are nice.

All this talk about Wind Waker's graphics reminded me of this awesome thread on polycount which breaks the game down and looks at how they made some of the graphics work. Maybe I'm the only one here who cares

That's pretty great, actually!

I'm particularly interested in how light shading on objects comes from the closest light source alone. Because it was simple, but I remember it looking quite good in-game.

I find the new graphics makes the character models look like plasticine stress reliever dolls.

New indiegala indybundle!

Pay what you want for:

Pathologic sort of brilliant, sort of unplayable horror game about surviving an epidemic from the extremely Russian Ice Pick Lodge
The Abbey cel-shaded murder-mystery point-and-clicker from the very Spanish Alcachofa Soft
Miner Wars Arena Top down 3rd person arena shooty action I guess?

Pay more than the Average (currently $5.30) and also receive:

Earth Defence Force: Insect Armageddon Americanized spin-off from the amazing EDF series. Flawed but fun b-movie bug slaughter with online co-op.
Miner Wars 2081 First person space shooty action in a persistent voxel-based world. Sounds a lot more like Minecraft than it looks.
Paranormal "A fully dynamic haunting-experience. Experience the horrors of a haunting that's never the same twice." apparently?
AN ADDITIONAL UNREVEALED GAME

Somewhat eclectic collection. I grabbed it for a steam copy of EDF:IA and because The Abbey sounds right up my alley. Pathologic is a game everyone should experience, but not necessarily one everyone should play themselves. The MinerWars titles look pretty dull, but Paranormal sounds absolutely nuts and could be interesting.

Edit: d'oh how do I keep missing the games thread?

I don't mind. Now I'll have a digital copy that has been updated to work on current pc's, supports current resolutions, and will no longer require me to bang my head against my router repeatedly to get it to work online(hopefully?).

I'm also deluding myself into thinking this will help revive interest in the franchise and result in a proper sequel.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS

I went to the midnight premiere for this area (not the London one ) last night/this morning/whatever.

I haven't had time to form a real opinion on it yet - I'd like to see how well it holds up to repeat viewings first - but my preliminary view that might change over time is that it's a good spectacle like the first one (Star Trek (2009)) was, but also significantly better than the first one with regards to plot, etc.

So, we now know that the "odd numbers suck" rule can be amended to "odd numbers suck, even numbers that are not multiples of 10 are good".

I am well jelly. Star Trek 2009 was great fun, a real step up from the dross of TNG films.

My personal best to worst Star Trek list:

The Undiscovered Country (so good)
The Wrath of Khan (a close second)
The Voyage home
Star Trek 2009
The search for Spock (Christopher Lloyd is the worst Klingon ever, but a fun baddie nether the less)
The Final Frontier (Don't you judge me, bad plot but great character moments)
The Motion Picture (Glacial pace, but great imagery.)
First contact (a half decent action movie staring actors completely unsuited to being in an action film)
Insurrection (closest to capturing the feel of TNG on the big screen. Like a feature length, but slightly rubbish episode)
Generations (astonishingly poor)
Nemesis (Misery and whispering. Parallels to Khan don't help any)
