Looking great so far
This is the first new worms game I've seen in years that actually looks like the people working on it give a damn about what they're doing! Almost all the recent (2d) games seem like rushed watered down remakes of old games with all sorts of features missing.
This game has online play, it has some new game modes (racing, forts), it has all of my favorite weapons that have been missing in some games lately (holy hand grenade, super sheep, concrete donkey, parachute), it has some interesting sounding new weapons like the magnet, boomerang, lightening strike (which can bring dead worms back to life from their gravestones) and the buffalo (which i think might not be entirely new but i never played a game that had it). The new weapons don't seem like just slightly different versions of old weapons. Some of my favorite features from the not-so-great 3d version are in this, like hats and victory dances. I really liked the graphical style and physics of the first Open Warfare and this seems to be just as good from what I can tell, if not slightly nicer. The map editor is back. The backgrounds are varied and interesting (and mostly all new). I sort of feel like I'm advertising the game here, but I've been a worms fan since I first played the demo for Worms 1 on PC over an entire christmas break before worms actually came out that year. I played Armageddon for hours and hours and hours in college against all my friends on my PC. We'd have parties at our place just to play Worms. But I've felt like the series has been going downhill since Armageddon because the the 3d games removed the simplicity that let my friends that don't normally play games get right into it and the newer 2d games didn't have enough customization or weapons or options or the physics were shoddy. The first Open Warfare felt like a port of the first worms with a nice facelift. I felt like it was almost an experiment by the team to see what they could do on PSP. This second one actually seems like the team are taking it seriously and trying to do something new and interesting without breaking the mold of what made the old games fun. I personally can't wait to play this game. Keep it up Team 17! |

Spadge, you and the team are going to triumph now. This is the next landmark, a landmark as bright as W:A was.
Because this has new weapons. Never before seen ones. And the best from the old games, HHG and all that. Are we able to customise the victory dances? Or do we choose them?

I assume you choose from a list of existing victory dances and don't get to design your own. Great work, it really seems like you listened and put a lot of effort into this. The original Worms Open Warfare may not have been as good as everyone was expecting but they should now be able to see that it was a necessary move in the lead up to WOW2. I'm sure people will still complain that it doesn't have all the unbalanced/duplicate weapons that WWP has but since it has new modes and weapons, they should be able to see that WOW2 is a new game, if they want WWP, they should play WWP.
This game is going to be epic. I really hope you can get it published on more platforms. Last edited by Wormetti; 20 Apr 2007 at 07:50. |

Victory dances are selectable and in terms of features, pretty minor, all things considered.
There will be street parties over this title, rest assured ![]() Even flaming power bars are back.

Holy crap, a developer actually listening to its fans?!? Up is down, black is white, EA's support is awesome and Bomberman: Act Zero wasn't a crime against humanity.

We have a very close relationship and it's been an excellent one - as you'll see when you see the results. These guys did the GREAT N-Gage port a few years back. It's covered in TLC. US, Summer, it's a global launch.

Glad to hear it. We all know how people feel about the DS version of the original, and the screenshots for WOW2 look much better than that. much, much better.

(Frankie Goes To Hollywood joke? Never mind.) No, it's all looking very good. I've half a mind to dig up an old thread where people said "the DS version looks bad because it's an underpowered crappy Nintendo" and rub this all up in their faces.

Hang on, Flaming Power Bars = Better Than WA?
You should've put them into Worms 4: Mayhem, guys. Then no one would complain about it.

Hey I didn't mean to imply that you guys haven't been doing your best on all previous worms games. I understand there are limits to what you can do with the budget and time that you are given on each project that it's not always the developers fault when a game doesn't end up being all it was intended to be. But whatever the reasons, this new Worms really has me excited about the worms franchise again. Worms 2 and Worms Armageddon are two of my all-time favorite games. It just seems to me like most of the creative effort lately has gone into the 3D games, which because of the perspective and control issues just don't have the same spirit and simplicity that made my friends love the early 2d games. It's a pretty cliched sentiment in these forums I guess, but in my opinion worms was always meant to be played in 2d. It's just nice to see some interesting new ideas and major effort going into a 2d worms again. I'll definately be buying the PSP version of Open Warfare 2.
